On Sunday 11th March, the band played to over 4,000 marchers, sponsored to walk the 14 miles between the Chelsea and Sutton Royal Marsden Hospitals. The Marsden March is a way for individuals, friends and family to raise funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and to show their support for the charity or to honour a loved one. It’s also a great opportunity to recognise the ways in which your life may have been touched by cancer alongside others who have shared similar experiences.The 14-mile route started at The Royal Marsden in Chelsea and went through Fulham, Putney, Wimbledon and into Surrey, finishing at The Royal Marsden in Sutton.
In addition, it was a great opportunity to celebrate our bandmaster’s recently awarded ‘Community Award’. The award is given to those in the Royal Borough of Kingston-Upon-Thames who make a significant contribution to the local community. Alison has devoted over 24 years to helping others, through her Scouting roles at 1st Old Malden and her leadership of the band – well done Alison!
